White paper on Polish-American Economic cooperation 2012 and beyond

For over twenty years, FDI has been the main driver of Polish-American economic relations. At that time, US
companies invested over 20 bn USD in Poland. In 2011 Polish exports to the U.S. totaled 3,7 bn USD, while imports reached 4,8 bn USD. An important part of exports was generated by American companies results from from the White Paper of Polish-American Economic cooperation presented by the organizers of the Polish-American Business Summit, that will be held on June 20, 2012 at the Copernicus Center in Warsaw.

This paper describes above all the areas for further cooperation and summarizes the current trade and investment
between these two countries.

Our businesses, including small and medium-sized exporters have the ability to enter the US market. However, the United States so far has been outside the circle of interest of majority Polish exporters and a
lot of effort needs to be made to increase the volume of trade in both directions says Henryka Bochniarz, President of PKPP Lewiatan.

To strengthen trade, it is also necessary to remove the barriers that discourage investors. One of the major concerns for US investors is the future of government programs supporting investment, including
investment subsidies and tax reliefs in special economic zones. The current system is not flexible, not apace
with the world's rapidly changing economic situation mentioned Józef Wancer, Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Poland.

To boost bilateral trade and investment we need a more active policy of regional institutions, both U.S. and
Polish, which consists, for example, of established working contacts between the city offices responsible for
attracting investment and regional chambers of commerce. "- adds Eric Stewart, President of US-Poland Business
Council.

The White Paper potential areas of cooperation between Polish and U.S. companies include: energy, e-business, innovation and industry (including aerospace, defense, biotechnology). Both governments should provide support and incentives for companies wanting to take advantage of existing opportunities for cooperation.

The issues raised in the White Paper will be discussed during the Polish-American Business Summit to be held on 20 June 2012. The organizers of the summit are: American Chamber of Commerce in Poland, the Polish Confederation of Private Employers and US-Poland Business Council.
